The Dresden Branch Library and the Dresden Fire Department teamed up for the Summer Experience Program: Meet the Fire Department event earlier this month on the evening of July 10. This free event was open to kids of all ages.
Medic, Chris Stevens, handed out bright red toy firefighter hats to all participants while they watched an informative film about fire safety in an upstairs room at the fire station.
Next, everyone followed Mr. Stevens downstairs and into the Ready Room where he explained and demonstrated some of the gear that firemen and firewomen wear to stay protected from the hazards of their job.
The kids were really excited about what came next, a tour of the fire engines and rescue vehicles in the vast fire station garage. Mr. Stevens was joined by veteran firefighter and EMT Carl “Mick” Archer, as they helped young ones inside the different trucks and opened equipment doors to explain much of the tools and equipment they use in emergencies.
