Fitness Class Empowers Seniors

Exercise is important for all ages and body types but some of us may not feel comfortable or physically capable with the typical gambit of fitness options available.  The Senior Chair Fitness Class led and organized by an experienced fitness professional of nearly 12 years, Maria Frame, is the perfect well rounded morning workout for all levels of ability.

Maria created the class to provide a way for seniors to socialize while staying active. She wishes her grandmother who had dementia had a similar opportunity.  It is because of her grandmother that she decided to start the class. “Socializing is just as important as the workout”, Maria stated.

The class is open to all ages (some are even 90) but focuses on exercises that are perfect for people 55 and up.  Routines can be customized to fit any limitations or health concerns. Or if you need to challenge yourself shoot for a higher intensity workout with just a slight modification.  Sitting or standing can also customize your workout to match your preference. Participants can use free weights and bands to strengthen muscles and motor functions.  The goal is to improve your quality of life by giving you more energy and increased mobility.  Maria demonstrates the proper way to hold weights and bands and reminds the class to use them in a way that will not cause improper strain on their body and will be more effective.

Maria, the instructor, is very knowledgeable and patient.  She takes the time to talk to everyone and get to know them.  You can tell that she truly loves what she does and cares about each person who attends her class.  Wanda Schweitzer and Linda Kelly commented on how prepared Maria is.  They both love the challenge that the class provides.  They also added that they like how the classes are different each time with a new routine, music and even stories from the instructor.  All of the participants are grateful to Maria for all that she does and also to the UMC for allowing them to use the youth building.

Whether you are needing a morning warm up to gear you up for a busy day, or a less strenuous routine that still gets your blood pumping, then this class is a must attend for you. Class starts at nine on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at the Dresden United Methodist Church (youth building) and they run for about 45 minutes. The cost is only 20 per person a month or 35 for couples.  You can also just pay by the class for just three dollars or give it a try at no cost.
