Adamsville Brothers Pitch with a Passion

Adamsville is home to the Try-County Horseshoe Club, a league that recently cheered on two of its younger members who competed at the 2018 World Tournament earlier this summer.

Caiden Hogue (12, a 6th grader at Adamsville elementary and his brother, Cameron Hogue (8), who is in 3rd grade also at Adamsville Elementary, added a couple new trophies to their collection when they finished in 4th and 3rd (Class B).  The highly competitive World Tournament was no stranger to Caiden.  He had competed at the same level before bringing home an 8th place win in 2016.  The World Tournament hosts 1,026 competitors from 47 states in addition to Canada, South Africa, and Norway during its two-week event.  There were just 75 Ohioans competing this year. “We like to meet people from all around the world”, says Cameron.  Both boys have also pitched at the State level.  Caiden has been the State Cadet Champion for the past two years and Cameron earned 2017 State Class C Champion and a 1st place Class B victory this year on Labor Day.

Pitching since 2014, Caiden is currently ranked 8th in the world with a 49.65 ringer percentage.  Cameron has been playing for just a couple years less than his older brother.  His ringer percentage is 17.81 but he is on track to improve that percentage in the coming year.

The kids keep their parents Roger and Theresa Hogue very busy with a myriad of activities including various sports and 4H. Band, school plays, student council, and spelling bees are also on the schedule for Caiden.  Both boys are Riverside Jr. Grange members and attend St. Nicholas Catholic Church where Caiden is an altar server.  They also maintain great grades and are on the Principal’s List at their school.  Possibly one of the most enjoyed activities out of the bunch is the game of horseshoes because it is a hobby that they share with other members of their family.  The brothers pitch on the same team as their Pappy, Marvin Paul, and their mom.  “They love to pitch horseshoes and have a fun time. The other pitchers in the league have become like family and are always encouraging and cheering on the boys!”, Theresa remarked.  Caiden added, “It’s a wonderful experience and we have a lot of fun.”

Caiden and Cameron don’t have to wait long to get back to pitching. The kick off for the sanctioned winter league is the first week of October and it runs through mid-April.  Leagues pitch Tuesdays or Thursdays at Sarbaugh’s Indoor Courts in Adamsville.  The Try County Horseshoe Pitchers are a sanctioned league member of the National Horseshoe Pitchers Association.   For more information about the Try County Horseshoe Pitchers be sure to check them out on Facebook or call Julia Shaw at 740-260-2688.
