It was undoubtedly a tough matchup between the Lady Dawgs and the Panthers on Tuesday night at the Kenny Wolford Park in Dresden. Licking Valley took the first score of the night after a good bit of struggle to maintain possession of the ball. #4 Team captain Laiken Little rallied her team mid-way through the first half by scoring the game tying point which would bring the tally to 1-1 against Licking Valley and it would stay that way despite a few attempts on the goal by both teams all the way to halftime.
After the half the Panthers came out fighting and the struggle continued as both teams attempted goals that wouldn’t stick time after time. With a little over a 11 minutes remaining in the game Licking Valley grabbed another goal to bring the score to 2-1 in their favor.
The Scotties battled relentlessly against the stubborn Panthers as the clock was ticking down. With just 5 minutes remaining in the game #17 Karson Ross broke through the Licking Valley defenses and made a mad dash for the goal and landed the ball squarely in the net tying the score 2-2. This brought the excited crowd to their feet roaring and gave the team the boost that they needed. So much so, that just 29 seconds later #17 broke through the line again and took a successful shot on the goal to get Tri-Valley’s first lead of the night of 3-2.
“I think our team did really well coming back after getting down the second goal. I think we need to do that every game and just play together and keep working hard. It gets us places and ends up getting us the win when we work hard and never give up!” – stated #17 Karson Ross
Licking Valley was trying desperately to answer back with several attempts at the goal including a bolt that rang off of the crossbar, but they were unable to break Tri-Valley’s stride. With 2:10 left in the game, #6 team captain Hannah Watts grabbed her first goal of the night to escalate the Lady Dawgs lead to 4-2.
The Panthers tried to recover but in the end the Lady Dawgs brought home the victory.
#6 Team Captain Hannah Ross had this to say “My team continues to work hard throughout the entire game and no one chooses to stop”
