Over the past few months, there has been a lot of confusion when it comes to shopping in Dresden since the closing of the Longaberger Company and Patio Shops in May. Some have questioned if there are any shops open at all and have assumed the worst. Fortunately, there ARE still several shops (and dining establishments) still open and going strong.
There are about 11 gift shops currently open including: Baskets and More, Basket Guy/Sheds Direct of Dresden, Country Cupboard’s Second Chance, Humble Heart, Moore’s Farm Toys & Crossroad’s Treasures, Lawler’s Pharmacy, Miller’s Emporium, Miller’s Flowers and Grandma’s Country Store, Pahasque’s Needful Things, Smore Baskets, and Stacey’s Baskets. Many of these shops carry the still sought after Longaberger baskets, accessories and pottery, but there is also much more to discover. An array of Fall and Christmas decor can be found in a majority of the stores, antiques, vintage furniture that is ready to be re-purposed, wrought iron, garden flags, candles, home decor, hand-made one-of-a-kind treasures, and miniature collectible baskets are just some of the items that easily come to mind.
The Dresden Community Association is promoting and hosting the Destination Dresden Shopping and Dining Trail which will begin October 6 and will conclude a little over a month later on November 8 during the association’s annual Ladies’ Night Out.
The Destination Dresden Shopping and Dining Trail includes a dozen stops. To get started on your shopping and dining journey you must obtain a passport from one of these participating businesses: Creno’s Pizza, The Dresden Tavern, Scotties Den, Warehouse Restaurant Dresden, Smore Baskets, Baskets and More, Humble Heart, Basket Guy/Shed’s Direct, Stacey’s Baskets, Lawler’s Pharmacy or Country Cupboard. Once you have your passport, visit each of the listed businesses to collect a stamp in your passport. Once your passport is full, you may hand it in to receive a keepsake Destination Dresden Shopping and Dining tote bag. Your completed passport also enters you into two prize drawings…one is for a $100 Visa Gift Card and the other is for a chance to win the Grand Prize Basket of Dresden goodies. The Grand Prize Basket winner will be drawn during Ladies’ Night on November 8 (5-8pm).
The trail does not have to be completed in just one day. You are welcome to take your time and leisurely complete the trail over the next month. Also, it is important to note that you do not need to make a purchase to participate in the trail.
With this trail, it is the DCA’s hope that locals and tourists alike will reconnect with the merchants and become a little more aware of the wonderful shopping and dining opportunities we have right here in Dresden. We hope you will grab some friends and take on the challenge of completing the Destination Dresden Shopping and Dining Trail.
