My nephew, Mark Frazier, is battling a terrible kidney disease. Mark is a 1981 graduate of TVHS, he was a very active member of the TV Band, and went on to Otterbein college and received a degree in music education. He taught band and drama at Hamilton Local in Columbus for 30 some yrs. He retired from the band this past year but is still doing the Drama Club there, which puts on a fantastic musical play each spring! He has been diagnosed with PKD, Polycystic Kidney Disease, a disorder that causes clusters of cysts to develop within the kidneys and can lead to kidney failure. Mark is in need of a living kidney donor before he goes into kidney failure, which Drs feel will be within approx 15 months at the most, at which time he will be on dialysis.
The success rate of a kidney transplant from a living kidney donor is around 98 %, much better than a donor from a deceased person. Plus the wait for a deceased donor is at 4-5 yrs or longer to find a match. So we are trying all avenues to find a living donor to give Mark a new lease on life because that is the shortest and best option for a successful transplant for him!
If you are interested in being tested you can contact Carolyn Green at 740-607-0366 for assistance or with questions or 800-293-8965 then select option 3 and choose 1 on the next option to speak to a transplant nurse at Wexner Medical Ctr OSU/kidney donor to assist you with any questions. You can also become a prayer warrior for Mark in his search for a compatible match. Thank you for your concern and interest in this special need and please spread the word. You never know where that perfect match might be located.
