Small Business Saturday, a shopping holiday that falls the Saturday after Thanksgiving, is almost upon us. This shopping event is an annual reminder to support local small businesses like Country Glass Works which is owned and operated by a remarkable and talented lady, Cheryl Fadley.
Country Glass Works offers handmade stained and fused glass one-of-a-kind items.
Cheryl began working with glass in 1993 when she took her first stained glass class. She added creations made with fused glass after learning the new skill in 2007. She currently makes and sells a variety of products including wonderful holiday items like ornaments and holiday-themed gifts as well as magnets, bowls, plates, spoon rests, coasters, candle holders and necklaces. There are even a couple Tri-Valley Scotties inspired pieces.
Each item is carefully crafted with much attention to detail and a love for the art form that shows through in Cheryl’s work. Each piece takes about 18-54 hours to complete depending on the size of the item, type of glass and the process. Special orders are available at no additional cost.
Country Glass Works handmade gifts can be found at Lawler’s Pharmacy (817 Main St, Dresden), directly at Country Glass Works located at 14598 County Road 436 in Dresden, or by going to the website countryglassworks.com. In addition, Cheryl sells unique stepping stones which can be purchased at Agin Hardware (27 W 5th St, Dresden) or Praters Highway Market (970 Raiders Rd, Adams Mills).
A portion of every sale is donated to the cancer society and Country Glass Works necklaces are donated to Saint Jude Children’s Hospital each year. Cheryl is passionate about raising money for cancer research in part because she was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer in 2016. After chemo, she was told that there was nothing more the doctors could do. Cheryl is still fighting and has a positive attitude. She uses her time working with glass as a way to keep her mind off of her health. The profit from her sales goes towards her medical bills.
Remember to shop small this holiday season because every sale to a small business owner is more than just another sale, it is an act that can brighten their entire day.
