Canton Ohio was host Saturday to some of the top swimmers in the Buckeye State as a group of the top Tri-Valley Scotties made the trek to test their skills at the 2019 Northeast Classic.
Representing the boys was the 200 Free Relay team of Seniors Keegan Bumpus, Benjamin Jacoby, Chad Bell and Eric Allen. In an impressive swim, the foursome posted a near record time of 1:39.31 and finished 22nd in an elite field of swimmers. Their effort was just 1.15 seconds off the school record set in 2009 by the Scottie team Ryan Hetrick, Carter Brown, Jacob Hindel and Kevin Bell (older brother Chad Bell). Their sites are still focused on capturing that Tri-Valley record.
On the girls side, a total of two Lady Scotties hoisted the banner for the black and gold of Tri-Valley. Sophomore Larissa Lynch was one of two entries for her team in the girls 200 Free where she finished 31st with a time of 2:06.59. Teammate Caroline Holmes was the other Scottie to represent the Dresden high school in the 200 Free. In an unusual turn of events, Holmes tied for third in the Prelims with a time of 1:55.66 and came back in the Finals to finish 7th while adding almost a second to her time. Both her times, however, were new Tri-Valley school records (breaking her own previous record).
In the 100 Butterfly, Holmes once again swam impressive events as she set a new school record both times she hit the water. Her Final time of 1:00.24 placed her in the 24th spot overall as she improved her Prelim time by .02 of a second in a very competitive field.
Overall, Tri-Valley swimmers represented themselves and their school well as they competed against some of the top high school athletes in Ohio.
