Tri-Valley Archery Tryouts has students aiming for success

Wednesday, January 16th at the Practice barn behind Dresden Elementary Head Coach Dan Spiker was holding tryouts for the Tri-Valley Archery teams. Tri-Valley Archery is a team sport that is part of the Muskingum Valley Archery League as well as competing in the National Archery in the Schools Program or NASP®.

Archery is picking up great momentum in schools because it provides a sporting avenue that appeals to both participants in mainstream sports as well as people who don’t like those sports. Archery has also been found to teach a great deal of self-discipline, focus, and patience in a sport that doesn’t discriminate based on popularity, athletic skill, gender, size, or academic ability.

Wednesday, was just one of three tryout days for scoring, one of which includes a Tri-Valley “Shootin’ with the Scotties” Fun Shoot coming up on Saturday January 19th at the Tri-Valley High School starting at 8am and ending at 4pm. There are about 350 slots in this competition and it will show coaches not only how the students can shoot, but how they can perform in a competitive environment that includes more than just their own classmates.

Update: The Fun Shoot has been rescheduled for February 2nd.
