Fitness Opportunities Galore

There are things we may find ourselves traveling out of the village for, but a place to get a good workout in should not be one of them.

Even in the cold winter months, there are plenty of fitness opportunities in Dresden. We are very fortunate to have a gym and a variety of classes offered for different ages and abilities at several locations throughout town.

Body of Choice Gym is on a mission to try to get people to reach their fitness goals. With all the perks of a “big city gym” like a Silver Sneakers program, personal trainers, 6-week weight loss challenges, Zumba, Box Fit and weight training classes, three rooms loaded with equipment such as ellipticals, treadmills, bikes, punching bags, free weights, steppers, weight machines, selectorized equipment and more – it is no question that the low membership fee is worth it. Memberships start at only ten dollars a month which is cheaper than the gas it would take to get you to and from an out of town gym a few times a week each month. Body of Choice Gym can be found on Facebook at facebook.com/bodyofchoice.

These two wonderful options for exercise have been featured recently in the Dresden Buzz but they are too good not to mention again. First Choice Nutrition has weekly pound class and cardio drumming classes. Check out their Facebook page (facebook.com/1stchoicenutrition) to stay up to date on all that they have available. If you are wanting the perfect workout to start your day or you are a senior looking to improve your energy and mobility Senior chair fitness classes are the perfect fit. They are led and organized by Maria Frame and are held at the Dresden United Methodist Church (youth building) on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at nine.

When warm weather hits options really open up. Sidewalks along Main Street are very popular for walkers. The six-mile paved Muskingum Recreation Trail is often an overlooked asset that is a must for anyone wanting a walk or bike ride on a scenic trail full of rock formations and wildlife. Of course, there is also the magnificent Dresden Swim Center which offers water aerobics classes for a small fee. If sports are more your thing you can take advantage of the tennis courts at the community park near the High School and Water Department or utilize the Basketball courts and baseball fields that can be found at Kenny Wolford Community Park, yet another beautiful recreational center that Dresden is very fortunate to have. Speaking of recreation, the boat ramp and park along the Muskingum River offer opportunities for biking, walking, and kayaking.

At first glance, it may be hard to see all of the opportunities that are available in a small town like Dresden. Whether it is fitness, dining, shopping, healthcare, etc., sometimes it is good to be reminded to take advantage of the local options and support your community.
