Obituary: Jerilyn “Shed” Birkhimer

Jerilyn Ruth “Shed” Birkhimer was born August 18, 1942 in Somerset, Ohio to the late Gale and Kathleen Lacy Henery. On December 9, 1961, Shed married Charles “Butch” Birkhimer. She missed Butch every day following his death on June 7, 1989.

The greatest joy in Shed’s life was being a mother to her daughter, Danette. They took many trips together; last year’s trip was to Utah. Favorite trips were to the Grand Canyon with a side trip to Sedona for a pink jeep ride, Bar Harbor, the Smoky Mountains and to Rehoboth Beach.

Shed was a 1960 graduate of Somerset High School. She joined the Longaberger Company in 1979. She worked in many different departments including bottoms, weaving and customer restoration.

Shed enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She attended the Dresden United Methodist Church and was a member of the Flaky Faithfuls, ladies Bible study group. She also enjoyed doing many crafts, scrapbooking and playing in her flowers.

Shed enjoyed her sports. Anytime the Scotties took to the field or hardwood, she was usually found on the bleachers cheering them on. Saturdays in the fall always meant Buckeye football. She loved watching Ohio State, Duke and Gonzaga basketball. Shed was passionate about supporting her teams and she wasn’t afraid to let the refs know when they had made a bad call.

After 10,926 days apart, Shed has finally been reunited with Butch. She died following a brief illness on May 7, 2019 at the Morrison House in Zanesville.

Shed will be missed by a large circle of family and friends, including her daughter, Danette Birkhimer; three sisters, Linda Harrington, Patsy (Jim) Ferry and Susan Draper; brother and sisters-in-law, Kenny (Elaine) Birkhimer, Bonnie Hague, Trudy (Don) Ridenour and Julie (Scott) Ford; and many nieces and nephews, including special nieces Jody and Jil Rodgers and great niece Emmy Jo.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Kenny Henery, and a nephew, Ted Henery.

Calling hours will be 5pm to 8pm Friday, May 10, 2019 at the Dresden Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home, 714 Main Street.

Funeral services will be 11:00am Saturday, May 11, 2019 at the funeral home with Mr. Tom Davisson officiating. Burial will be in Dresden Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Tri-Valley Local School District, 36 East Muskingum Avenue, Dresden, Ohio 43821, in memory of Jerilyn/Shed Birkhimer.
