On Monday, July 15th, the Tri-Valley started this year’s junior high football camp. New seventh-grade class members for the upcoming year stepped on the field at Jack Anderson Stadium to start what will hopefully be a long career as a Scottie football player.
Coach Ben Kennedy and his staff spent time running through drills on the field and going over plays in the locker room. There were 30 new 7th graders trying out this year and 19 returning 8th graders. Amidst the drills and training, players were also getting fitted for their football helmets as well as other gear.
“30 seventh graders is a great number, that’s what we like to see. We would have liked to have more 8th graders coming back, but the ones we have are dedicated and focused and that’s what we want as coaches!” stated coach Kennedy.
Many of the fundamentals and the routines these kids learn during their 7th and 8th-grade years are going to be the habits and in-grained knowledge that carries them into being great varsity players as they progress.
Coach Kennedy and his staff have been at the core of training great Tri-Valley Scotties players for years and we look forward to seeing what this new round of players can do in the years to come. Keep up the good work!
