The 5th annual Dinner on the Farm was hosted by Urban Greens at Restoration Park. The event began with a walking tour of the Urban Greens Program Community Garden, hors d’oeuvres, and tastings of local wines and beer.
A gourmet dinner was prepared by Chef Bill Bird that featured local products. The meal started with a grilled sweet corn and heirloom tomato salad in a tender lettuce cup, followed by braised country pork chops jardinière, pulled pork shoulder with BBQ, grilled free-range chicken, Monterrey jack and tomato salsa, roasted medley of vegetables, triple scalloped potatoes, fresh yeast rolls with applesauce butter and was completed crispy zucchini cobbler topped with Tom’s Ice Cream.
“The purpose of this event is to connect farmers and community leaders, celebrate local foods, and bring awareness to the work being done Urban Greens and the Muskingum County Hunger Network,” said Andrea Kackley Organization Director for Farm Bureau.
Following dinner, Auctioneer Ross Park auctioned off 16 packages or items that added to the funds collected from the ticket sales to support the two local charities. At the end of the evening, a check for $6,125 was presented to Kristen Baughman on behalf of Urban Greens and a check for $6,125 was presented to Jamie Trout of Eastside Community Ministry, Irv Bell, and Chuck and Sue Bell on behalf of the Muskingum County Hunger Network. “This event continues to be a wonderful evening to celebrate agriculture and the communities we live in,” said Kackley. “We would like to thank Urban Greens and Restoration Park for hosting, all those who attended, those that sponsored the event with monetary donations, food products or auction items, and those that participated in the auction! We know the funds raised will go to good use in our community!”
