The Annual Dresden Melon Festival is the largest fundraiser for local organization Friends of the Dresden Parks.
Dresden Mayor (Dave) and wife Donna Mathew spearhead the event with the help of several volunteers.
A whopping 1,500 people were estimated to attend this year’s event on August 3rd.
The festival is a revival of a similar festival that was held in the ’60s and ’70s and is based on Dresden’s rich melon growing heritage.
Like years past, there was plenty to do including a craft and flea market, live music, silent auction, fishing tournament, cruise-in, and the popular children’s activities which included a melon derby, seed spitting contest, and watermelon eating competition.
