They Did it Again – Marching Scotties Earn Spot At State Competitions For 38th Consecutive Year!

If you have not seen the 2019 Tri-Valley Marching Band show titled “The Arts in Motion” then you are missing out…BIG TIME! It is truly a spectacular spectacle. So much so that the band qualified for state competitions after their performance at Watkins Memorial, the first stop on this year’s leg of competitions.

The results from the Ohio Music Education Association sanctioned event on Saturday, September 28 were amazing. At Watkins Memorial the band received 1st in Class A, 1st in Auxiliary, 1st in Percussion, Overall Auxiliary, 2nd overall in Visual, Tied for 2nd Overall in General Effect, and the band placed 3rd overall out of 14 bands. That same day, at the Licking Valley HS Competition the band received the following in Class A: 1st in Class A, 1st in Auxiliary, 1st in Percussion. The band and the auxiliary were 4th overall out of 12 bands. The band qualified at both contests for the 38th consecutive OMEA State Finals Competition!!!

The following Saturday, the Marching Scotties placed 1st in Class A Auxiliary, 1st in Class A Percussion, 1st in Class, and Overall Grand Champions Class A & AA at the Zanesville Bonanza of Bands. There are only a couple more stops on the schedule for the band before the OMEA State Marching Band Finals in November. The band will host this year’s Tri-Valley Classic on October 26 at Jack Anderson Stadium begining at 5:00 pm.

Band Director, Amanda Blevins is very proud of the band’s accomplishments so far this season. “Our students have been working diligently all season. We encourage them to make each repetition and each performance better than the next. The students are buying into this concept and it is paying off for them. Each week we are setting new goals and they are consistently working to achieve those goals. We are proud of them for all their focus, discipline, and hard work!,” said Ms. Blevins.


Since this article was first published the band has competed at another competition. The band traveled to Meadowbrook on Saturday, October 12 and brought home trophies for 1st in Class in Percussion and Auxiliary, Best Overall Auxiliary, and GRAND CHAMPIONS!
