Boys Soccer Team Raises Money for Cancer Awareness

The Tri-Valley boys varsity soccer team raised $575 to help their coach reach his goal of raising $2,500 for breast cancer.

The team is helping their coach Roderick Gibson who is one of only four men from the area who are taking part in the American Cancer Society’s Real Men Wear Pink Campaign. Through the campaign men in a leadership role proudly wear the color pink throughout the month of October to raise awareness and money to help fight breast cancer.

“It is important to bring about awareness about breast cancer and to encourage those who might be going through the battle themselves. They need to know and be reminded that they are not doing this alone and that even if we don’t know them personally, we are there for them as part of their “Get Well Team,” said Coach Gibson.

During the Tri-Valley boys varsity home game on October 1st, the boys wore pink on the field. They collected money through raffles and donations and even sold items during the game to boost their fundraising endeavors.

The team hoped to raise $500 and if they did they would be rewarded by putting a pie in the face of Coach Gibson, Mr. Nezbeth and Mr. Hindel. The goal was exceeded by $75 which meant it was pie time!

There is still time to donate. Click here to make a donation on Coach Gibson’s Real Men Wear Pink Page.
