The 12th class of the Tri-Valley High School Athletic Hall of Fame was inducted on Friday, October 18th, at Jack Anderson Stadium. The Hall of Fame inductees are chosen based on their outstanding athletic abilities or coaching abilities and the significance to their relative teams. There were four inductees this year.
Larry Welch
Tri-Valley Teacher and Coach from 1978-2009
Larry was a math teacher and a coach at Tri-Valley High School for 30 years. Larry coached golf, football and baseball. The teams Larry coached won six Muskingum Valley League titles, seven Sectional titles, went to Regional Tournaments 11 times and qualified for the OHSAA state golf tournament twice.  Coach Welch helped start the Muskingum Valley League junior golf program, and also started the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) program at TVHS. Larry was the OHSAA Division I coach of the year three times. He was inducted into the Ohio High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2009.
Lynda (Shepler) Miller
Graduated from Tri-Valley High School in 1983
Lynda was a multiple sport standout athlete at Tri-Valley.  In basketball, she was the school’s first female athlete to be recognized at the state level in any sport, earning 1st Team All-Ohio honors as well as the AP East District Player of the Year honors, her senior year of 1983.  During her high school career she had 803 points scored and a three-year total of 536 rebounds, she still holds the school record for most rebounds in a game – 21 and is tied for most points scored in a game – 34 .  Lynda was a member of the 1982 MVL champion, District runnerup team, and the 1983 Lady Scotties basketball team who earned Regional runnersup. She was a two-time MVP in volleyball and member of the 1983 MVL Champion and District champion team, she also stood out in track and field, competing in the 1981 State Track as a member of the 800 meter relay team. Lynda played college volleyball at Kent State University for four years.
Jon Shirer
1987 Tri-Valley High School Graduate
Jon was a basketball three-year letterman for Coach Rich Longaberger’s Scotties, and was a member of the 1986 team which finished 19-4, winning a Muskingum Valley League championship and Sectional title, and the 1987 team, that finished 20-4 and won a Sectional title as well. Jon was his team’s Most Valuable Player his senior year in 1987, leading the Scotties in scoring and rebounding, and earning All-MVL and East District first team honors, as well as Honorable Mention All-Ohio honors. He was a four-year letterman in Tri-Valley track and field for Coach Fred Graham, and was his team’s Most Valuable Player his senior year and was a three-time All-MVL player and champion in the high jump, long jump, 400 meter dash, and the 4×400 meter relay.
Adam Bice
2008 Tri-Valley High School Graduate
Adam was a four-year letterman and lineman for Coach Justin Buttermore’s football team, he was a key member of the school’s first state playoff team in 2006, and the Muskingum Valley League champions in 2007 as well, which won the school’s first state playoff game ever, a 31-26 win over Logan. He had All-MVL, All-District, and Special Mention All-Ohio lineman honors his junior year, then was named the MVL and District Lineman of the Year, followed by a First Team All-Ohio selection based on his outstanding performance in his senior football season. Adam played center in basketball for Coach Tim Shumaker’s Tri-Valley basketball team, he earned 1st Team All-MVL and District honors and was an Honorable Mention All-Ohio player for his junior and senior years.  He helped lead his team to three straight conference team titles in his three varsity seasons for coach Shumaker, who were District runner-up and District title earned during the 2005-08 seasons.  He played college footballfor four years at the University of Akron, and was also signed as a free agent with the National Football League’s Arizona Cardinals.
