The Freshmen boys team and coach Davis Keel had a lot more to celebrate this New Years’ Eve as they pulled in a well-deserved championship title against their rivals from Sheridan with a 45 – 42 victory.
The Dawgs started out of the gate playing hard and staying one step ahead of the Generals ending the first period with a score of 8 – 6.
In the second period of play the Scotties turned up the heat, landing shot after shot tripling their score and preserving the lead by almost double that of the Sheridan at TV 24 – Sheridan 13 before heading into the locker rooms.
After halftime, Sheridan came out to play and things warmed up on the court as they tried to close the gap but only edging closer by one point at the end of the third period at 32 – 22 Tri-Valley.
The final period of play brought the most stress for Scotties as the Generals made a full-court press to capture the title in the final minutes of the game. Play after play was answered with a steal or a shot from Sheridan that brought the game down to a 3-point difference in the end but Tri-Valley was able to hold on enough to finish the game with a 45 – 42 advantage giving them the championship title. Way to go Dawgs!
