HGTV announced last month that they are looking for a hometown to restore in a new series which will air sometime next year.
This six-episode special event called Home Town Takeover will focus on the restoration of one deserving town with a population of 40,000 or less. The show will be hosted by Erin and Ben Napier of HGTV’s hit series “Home Town” which first aired in 2017.
Besides having a population of 40,000 or less, the town up for consideration must have a Main Street that needs a facelift and homes must have great architecture.
Applicants were asked to write a paragraph about what their hometown is like and submit a video and/or photos all of which are meant to sell producers on why they should consider each hometown. Dresden was one of the numerous entries from small towns all over the country. Nearby Coshocton also submitted an entry.
There were so many submissions that the server hosting the application process could not handle the load on February 7th – deadline day. HGTV Tweeted “We are thrilled at the amount of passionate responses we’ve received for #hgtvhometown Takeover submissions. The small-town love coming in actually broke @RTRMedia servers!”
The video submission for Dresden was narrated by Jim Lepi and shares the history of Dresden and the pride residents have for their hometown.
“We are ready for a renaissance. We have already started but we need help. We have a spark but we need an accelerant, and HGTV could be that accelerant, and you’ll be amazed at how quickly we can make a change here,” stated Jim Lepi.
A date to select the winner has not been announced.
