Tri-Valley Varsity Boys Basketball Team Earns Shared MVL Title After Beating Philo – Move On to Playoffs

The Dawgs have been working hard this season under the direction of coach Todd McLoughlin, and it has paid off. A tight 64 – 57 win over the visiting Philo team on Friday, February 21st, has given them a share of the MVL title and kicked off their advancement into the playoffs, where they will face their sectional opponent West Holmes team at home on Saturday, February 29th.

The Scotties had a hard fight against the underdog Electrics. Philo took an early lead and kept the Scottie defense on their toes as the landed shots from behind the three point line. The Dawgs offense was left to play catch-up and were struggling to do so at the end of the first quarter still trailing 13 – 10.

The chase continued into the second quarter where the host Scotties maintained their scoring efforts while the Electrics jolted further ahead to gain a strong 25 – 19 lead going into halftime.

A new team stepped out of the locker room as the Scotties came out in the third quarter to finally start playing the game, and prove why they deserved a piece of the MVL championship. The Dawgs third quarter rally dominated the visiting Electrics as they punched through the deficit and took a substantial 52 – 39 lead by the end of the third.

Tri-Valley never looked back even as Philo rallied back to narrow the gap, the Scotties took the victory with a 64 -57 final score.

Leading the Scotties in points was #23 Jack Lyall with 14, #10 Luke Lyall with 13, 11 points from #5 Keaton Williams, 9 from #1 Ty Smith, and 7 from #2 Skye Bryan.
