We are very fortunate to have not just one amazing pool, but two pools to cool off in the Tri-Valley area. In fact, the Dresden Swim Center and Frazeysburg pools are the only two outdoor swimming facilities currently open in Muskingum County.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, both pools opened a bit later than normal this year but both of our local pools are ready and operating with social distancing guidelines in place.
The Dresden Swim Center, 1330 Main Street, Dresden, reopened its doors on June 2. The pool is open to the public regardless of whether someone is a Dresden resident or not. There is not a specific number of people who are allowed in the pool that will be enforced. According to a post on the Dresden Swim Center’s Facebook page Mayor, Greg Morrison, commented on the matter “I would say capacity is as long as they stay 6 ft apart and groups of 10 or less can stay together as long as we get cooperation from everyone it’s going to be a great summer for all.”
UPDATE (June 12, 2020): The Dresden Swim Center posted an update on their Facebook page explaining the limit on capacity. “Per social distancing requirements, our capacity is set at 500 people. Just keep in mind that we will not be able to allow anybody into the facility over our capacity, and will have to turn patrons away at that time.” Updates will be posted on the Dresden Swim Center Facebook page.
All of the necessary guidelines are being implemented. There are signs posted explaining the requirements, protective Plexiglass sneeze guards have been installed at the admission counter and concessions stand, and lines marking a six-foot distance have been added where lines form around the slide and diving boards.
Entrance to the pool costs $7 a person (ages 2 and under are free) and the option of punch cards which are good for up to 12 visits are available for $70. Season passes are not being offered at this time. The pool is open 11 am – 7 pm Monday through Saturday and noon to 7 pm on Sunday.
The Dresden Swim Center’s Olympic sized swimming pool has many amenities such as lanes for lap swimming, two diving boards, a raindrop play area, a recreational slide and a separate gated area for a wading pool. There are three shelter houses for shade and plenty of lounge chairs spaced apart on a spacious cement pool deck.
On May 30 The Frazeysburg Pool located at 141 E 5th St
Frazeysburg reopened for the season. Pool passes are being offered and are $210 for a family, $110 for individuals, and $40 for seniors (60 and over). Punch cards are $50 for 10 visits and daily admission is $7 for adults and $6 for children. Rates are half price after 4 pm. The hours are 12 pm to 7 pm daily.
A nearby favorite, Lake Park’s Aquatic Center, located near Roscoe Village in Coshocton does not have plans to open this year. According to a press release dated for May 21 Coshocton Park District Board of Park Commissioners outlined a list of changes that they would be required to make in order to follow the limitations and requirements. “Taking these changes into consideration, updated projections were provided by Park District staff on attendance, revenue and expenses. The Aquatic Center is projected to lose in excess of $100,000 this season. It was a very difficult decision and one that was not taken lightly. While the potential financial loss was an important determining factor, the health and safety of our customers and staff remains our top priority during this pandemic. Therefore, the Lake Park Aquatic Center will remain closed for the 2020 season.”
