Zane State Offers Free Summer Camps Designed to Sharpen Skills – Exciting New Python Code Camp Begins June 15

New summer Math, English and Science camps and workshops are being offered at Zane State College this summer and they are completely free!

The National Science Foundation has made it possible for Zane State College to offer Free Math and Chemistry Camps July 13-17 and July 20-23 from 9 am to 4 pm. Students can sign up for both sessions. The math camp will bring students up-to-speed before taking Math 1250 (Algebra and Trigonometry) or Math 1340 (College Algebra) this fall. If you are planning to take Chemistry 1210 and AP Chemistry the chemistry camp is a great way to prepare. Neither camp is eligible for college credit and exams will not be given. Snacks will be provided. It is requested that students bring a packed lunch.

All students who register by June 10 receive free access to ALEKS (computer software) to continue to hone Math and Chemistry skills at home. To register or ask questions email Bonny Mitchell at bmitchell@zanestate.edu.

A free Zane State College Summer Bridge Program will begin on July 6 and will run through August 6. This one month course will boost writing confidence, advance math skills and increase your knowledge of science. A textbook is included. Orientation will be held on July 1. Register by June 17 by emailing Joyce Addo-Anum at jaddoanum@zanestate.edu.

Both free camps are open to anyone and are perfect to combat summer melt and help brush up on math, science and english skills for the ACT and SAT.

These camps will be held in person and are hands-on while maintaining social distancing in large labs.

In addition to the free camps, Zane State College is also offering a Python Code Camp for the first time ever. This exciting new camp will familiarize students with Python, a general-purpose scripting language that is both easy to learn and in demand. This language is used in a variety of situations from system administrators to AI researchers. In addition, many automation, data mining, and big data platforms rely on Python. No coding experience is necessary to get started.

This course is a 3-semester hour course that does earn students college credit. The current price per semester hour is $174.

The course will be offered June 15 through August 8 and will be solely online and taught in a virtual environment using WebEx, recorded sessions, and live coding demonstrations. Course times are Wednesdays from 12:30 – 2:20 pm or Thursdays 12:30 – 2:20 pm. To register or for further information contact John Jacobs at jjacobs@zanestate.edu.
