The angel and candle light fixtures that are hung annually by the Village of Dresden were installed just before Thanksgiving this year.
I always assumed that the decorations were something that the Village bought. I was surprised when I was told that they were actually made locally by Mick Archer and Bob Feffer with help from Dick Parsons over a decade ago.
Iron and steel make up the sturdy framework of the angels and candles and many hours were put into stringing hundreds of lights to complete the decorations.
At the time they were made some of the completed fixtures were sold to the Villages of Warsaw and West Lafayette and are still used to add a little holiday touch to their thoroughfares.
In 2019, Mick spent hours repairing the fixtures for Dresden with new wiring and sockets provided by the Friends of the Dresden Parks.
“It makes the town look pretty nice,” said Mick.
Before the Christmas season, the Dresden Community Association (DCA) began asking for donations to help with covering the cost of powering the lights. Normally the DCA has covered the cost with funds raised through events throughout the year. Most 2020 events had to be canceled which impacted the budget for Christmas Lights.
The electric bill generally runs between $700 to $900 each year.
Donations to fund the lights are still needed and can be mailed to…
