Obituary: Randy “Archie” Dean Archer

Randy “Archie” Dean Archer, 64, of Newark, Ohio died after a long battle with cancer, Saturday afternoon, December 12, 2020, with his wife and daughter, Ashley by his side, at Selma Markowitz Care Center operated by Hospice of Central Ohio in Newark.

Born November 24, 1956 in Sparks, Nevada, he was a son of the late Myron “Sonny” Archer and Ruth (Cody) Archer Newcome and he was a 1975 graduate of Tri-Valley High School. For nine years Archie worked construction with his step-father and brothers for Newcome Construction and left there to go to Lincoln Technical Institute in Indiana to study diesel mechanics. Archie worked as a diesel mechanic for over 32 years on High Reach Equipment at NES Rentals. He was an avid outdoorsman, active in hunting, fishing and camping with his friends and family. Archie was the camp cook on their camping adventures with friends and if he wasn’t outside you could find him watching his favorite teams, the Buckeyes, Broncos or watching NASCAR. 

Surviving is his loving wife of 27 years, Robin (Rada) Archer, whom he married June 12, 1993; two daughters, Ashley (Kyle) Bryan and Nicky (Matt) Frye; siblings, Tim (Janet) Archer and Annette (Arnie) Schlater; step-siblings, Lois (Ken) Norris, Merrill (Tom) Rounds, Dan (Annette) Newcome, Jodi (Mark) Pape and Lucy (Michael) Stephan. Also surviving are his longtime friends, Dwight (Mary) Brown and Kristi (Doug) Browning; eighteen nieces and nephews, lots of great nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Bandit.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father, Jack (Edna) Newcome and several aunts and uncles.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Dr. Mullins and staff, Dr. Daniel, Dr. Manokas, LMH staff and Hospice of Central Ohio for the care they provided.

Friends and family may gather from 1pm to 3pm on Saturday, December 19, 2020 at the Dresden Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home, 714 Main Street.

Funeral services will be at 3:00pm Saturday at the funeral home with Pastor Cory Campbell officiating.
