The rival Lil’ Muskies dropped by Coach Rich Longaberger court Wednesday, February 24th, as the 14th seeded playoff challengers to the Scotties who were seeded #6. It was a fierce battle that John Glenn hoped would put them further into the playoff schedule and stop Tri-Valley from continuing on, but that was not the case as the Dawgs took to the court wanting to prove that they are worthy of their spot and they battled John Glenn to a final 65 – 44 victory that pushes them on to the next level against West Holmes.
The Scotties started the game off right, running the court and holding back any offensive moves from the Muskies, taking a quick 11 – 0 lead midway through the first quarter. John Glenn finally found their stride and fought back but was not able to catch the Dawgs and ended the first quarter down 14 – 11.
The second quarter saw the Scotties rise to the occasion more than doubling their score and holding the Lil Muskies to just 10 points for the quarter. That’s not to say that John Glenn wasn’t being aggressive enough, 14 of the 22 Scottie points from the quarter were scored from the free-throw line after being fouled by the Muskies. But the aggression did not pay off as the Lil’ Muskies headed to the locker room down 36 – 21 against Tri-Valley.
After the halftime break the Scotties were back at it with #50 Caden King leading the charge with the first three scores of the quarter while working every bit as hard on defense keeping the Lil’ Muskies at bay. The quarter was a non-stop frenzy from one end of the court to the other but in the end they Dawgs came out on top ending the quarter at 54 to John Glenn’s 30.
By the final quarter of the game Coach Todd McLoughlin’s Scotties had put enough of a gap between them and their opponent to be able to regroup and get some fresh players on the court. The Dawgs finished out the playoff opener winning the game 65 – 44 over John Glenn and moving on to face West Holmes on Saturday Night in Millersburg.
