Lady Dawgs Take The District Title But End Playoff Run At Regional Semi-Final “Sweet-Sixteen”

The Dover Lady Tornadoes stepped onto the Coach Rich Longaberger court at the Dawg House on Saturday, February 27th to take on the Lady Dawgs for the Division II Region 7 District Championship. The Tri-Valley girls were not about to lose on their home court and they ended Dover’s playoff run with a pounding 41 – 29 victory that earned them the title and a birth into the District Semifinals.

The lady dawgs turned the volume up to 11 from the start and took an early lead pushing Dover around the court. The lady Tornadoes were keeping in step as much as they could but the Scotties edged them out at the end of the first by a score of 11 – 10.

As the momentum kept rolling for the lady Dawgs they continued to pressure the Dover defense and skirt around them landing shot after shot and turning over the ball to regain possession and pump up their lead thanks to two well placed treys by #3 Sophomore Lexi Howe and #12 Freshmen Karlee Rose. At the end of the half the Scotties had a nice 24 – 16 lead over the Tornadoes.

The third quarter brought no surprises to the Tri-Valley girls as they continued to push forward and keep Dover at bay. Dover stepped up their aggressiveness but it only worked against them with the Scotties landing free-throw shots on top of keeping the ball moving and they ended the third up 32 – 22 over the lady Tornadoes.

Lexi Howe decided to make the fourth quarter of the game a one-woman show as she landed the entire 9 points of the the round herself while she and her teammates held the lady Tornadoes to 7 points ending the game with a big Scottie victory for the District Championship Title and second consecutive berth into the “Sweet Sixteen” as they moved on to face Vinton County in the Regional Semifinal game at Zanesville.

Arriving at Zanesville on Tuesday, March 2nd, the Lady Dawgs were ready for their challengers as they took the court by force holding the Lady Vikings to just 5 points as they punched down an early lead at 12 – 5 by the end of the first.

Vinton County answered back with a huge 23 point rally in the 2nd quarter and the Lady Dawgs couldn’t keep the pace as they landed another 9 points but eventually ended up heading to the locker room down 28 – 21.

Coming off of half-time as they often do, the Lady Dawgs had renewed energy and matched the Lady Vikings shot for shot with both teams landing 13 points for the quarter heading into the 4th VC 41 – TV 34.

The Scottie girls were hoping to make up the difference in the final push of the game but Vinton County doubled their efforts and ran another rally of shots landing them 19 more points for the quarter and putting the Lady Dawgs hopes of continuing on to rest as the game ended with the Lady Vikings moving on with the 60 – 42 victory.

The Lady Dawgs had a great season and although they will be losing two senior starters for next season, they still have a lot of talent coming back and we look forward to seeing them back in the playoffs next year!
