Francis “Allan” Walton, 87, of Dresden, Ohio died Monday morning, March 22, 2021 at Sterling Suites in Zanesville, Ohio.
Born July 31, 1933 in Martins Ferry, Ohio he was a son of the late Francis and Mary (Paynter) Walton. He was a 1952 graduate of Dresden Jefferson High School and he proudly served our county as a member of the United States Army. Allan retired after over 41 years of service at Armco Steel in Zanesville where he was a superintendent. He also served for 30 years as a police officer with the Village of Dresden and was a member of the Dresden Volunteer Fire Department for 45 years. In his free time Allan loved to travel the country and he was a daily visitor of the Scotties Den in Dresden. He also enjoyed his Cracker Barrel outings with Beth Prouty.
Surviving is his wife, Mary Jane (Holmes) Walton; a sister, Nancy (Ronald) Bradford of West Lafayette, Ohio and several nieces and nephews, including Drake Prouty of Dresden, who Allan and Mary assisted in raising and treated as if he was their son. Also surviving is his dog, “Cory”.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Phyllis Prouty and Mary “Missy” Hoffstatter; a brother, Harold “Gene” Walton and a brother in-law George Holmes.
Allan’s family wishes to thank the staff at Sterling Suites in Zanesville for the excellent care they provide to Allan during his stay.
Calling hours will be for one hour prior to the funeral service.
Funeral services will be 11:00am Friday, March 26, 2021 at the Dresden Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home, 714 Main Street with Pastor Steve Wollard officiating. Burial will be in Dresden Cemetery.
