Terry Swartz recently accepted a full-time position at the Frazeysburg Fire Department as Assistant Fire Chief. Swartz is a longtime resident of Frazeysburg, and was born and raised in the town. Terry attended Tri-Valley Schools where during his high school years he joined the Junior Firefighter Program in Frazeysburg in 1992.
A couple of weeks after his graduation from Tri-Valley in 1995, Swartz enlisted in the Navy and shipped off to bootcamp. Terry served for four years in the US Navy and after he left the Navy he came back to Frazeysburg and went back to firefighting.
Terry has been a volunteer firefighter at Frazeysburg Fire Department for 29 years now and when asked by Fire Chief David Smith to go full time, he gladly accepted.
“I would like to say thank you to everyone out there from the bottom of my heart it means so much to me, I will continue to do my best to see that everyone in our community receives the upmost respect and care they deserve, it is an honor to serve you the people of our community, Thank you” said Swartz.
In April, 1944 the Frazeysburg Fire Department was organized with 18 men. Charter members were: Roy Baker, Fred Beard, John R. Buker, Clarence J. Frazier, Jesse A. Buker, Roger W. Dolder, Byron K. Ensley, J. Frazier Bennett, W. Thomas Hamilton, P. C. Maxwell, Walter McNaught, Carl F. Miller, Robert W. Power, Charles Riley, Carl Sommerville, and Gerald Vance.
When the town became a corporation in 1945, the department was renamed Frazeysburg Volunteer Fire Department, Inc. At that time, the department served everyone within a twenty-five mile radius of the village.
Today, the department provides fire and EMS coverage to the Village of Frazeysburg and Jackson Township in Muskingum County, and fire protection to Pike Township in Coshocton County. They also assist Coshocton County EMS with EMS coverage in Pike Township. They have a total coverage area of 50 square miles and a population of approximately 3100.
