This week the Dawgs started off on the wrong foot as they faced off against MVL rival Sheridan and were shutout. After that tough loss the Scotties are back on top as they pushed through two great conference wins against John Glenn and Coshocton.
Monday, April 19th, in Thornville, the Scotties traveled to face their MVL rivals the Sheridan Generals. The Dawgs had just come from winning weekend on a double-header win against Fort Frye but nevertheless, Sheridan was ready for them.
Both defenses were firing on all cylinders, but the Generals took the first score and the lead in the bottom of the 2nd inning and never looked back, shutting out the Scottie hitters and only allowing five hits with four strike outs against the Dawgs to take the win 4 – 0.
After the loss against Sheridan, the Dawgs came back home to face John Glenn on Tuesday the 20th. The games started off as a pretty even challenge between the two conference teams.
John Glenn began the scoring in the top of the second inning bringing in 3 runners before #9 Landon Harney was able to stop the bleeding. Tri-Valley answered back in the bottom of the 2nd with 2 runs of their own brought in by Harney and #8 Ethan McClellan.
Each team added another run to the tally in the 5th inning setting the score at JG 4 – TV 3. But in the bottom of the 6th inning the Dawgs came out swinging landing 2 more runs off of single from #7 Luke Hill followed by a single from #1 Trevor Yoder. Hill proceeded to steal home on a foul ball and #2 Hans Holmes finished off the scoring for the inning with a line-drive to center bringing in Yoder to push the Scotties ahead 8 – 4 against the Lil’ Muskies for the win.
After pulling themselves back together and taking down John Glenn in a late game lead, the Dawgs hit the road to nearby Coshocton for another MVL conference game against the Redskins.
Tri-Valley was quick to show up at the plate putting up four runs in the first few minutes of gameplay off of a single by #3 Jalen Goins-Chandler, a double by #1 Trevor Yoder, and another single by #2 Hans Holmes to start the game off right, up 4 – 0.
Coshocton didn’t answer back until the bottom of the 2nd and 3rd innings with a single in each closing the gap to 4 – 2 by the end of the 3rd. Yoder brought in Kinder on a single in the top of the fifth inning pushing the Scotties score up to 5.
Hans Holmes scored on an error in the top of the 6th to put Tri-Valley at 6 – 2 against the Redskins, but Coshocton wasn’t ready to throw in the towel just yet, they came back with a couple of singles in the bottom of the 6th to set the score to TV 6 – C 4. By the bottom of the 7th the Redskins had held Tri-Valley at 6 while eliminating their lead with two more runs tying the game 6 – 6 and holding it there into overtime.
In the top of the 10th inning the Dawgs grabbed a run off of a sacrifice by Harney to bring Trevor Yoder over the plate and take the lead back at 7 – 6. The Redskins tried, but were unable to match or beat the score so the Scotties won in 10 innings of play.
Tri-Valley is set to face Riverview on Friday, April 23rd at Kenny Wolford Park. Game time is 5pm.
