The weather could not have been better for the 10:30am gathering at the New Hope Cemetery across from the New Hope Church, just outside of Adamsville on SR 93 on Monday, May 31st. The Girl Scout Troop 60274 greeted everyone at the gates and handed out bulletins as well as red, white, and blue leis for people to wear to celebrate the occasion.
The event began with the Adamsville Boy Scout Troop 122 raised the flags and started off the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by Bill and Bob Reed stepping up to the microphone to play the Battle Hymn of the Republic on Harmonicas. After the performance members of the Boys Scout Troop 122 placed the wreaths by the memorial to honor fallen soldiers.
Bob Craddock played a couple of songs on his guitar as he sang for the crowd just before Pastor Pam Lashley of the Adamsville United Methodist Church gave the invocation. Second Class Scout Dalton Cooper, and Life Scout Aaron McConnell read poems aloud both before and after Pastor Mary Molnar from the New Hope Lutheran Church delivered the message for the day.
Veteran Bob Pletcher sang a number of old service songs for the people in attendance, prior to the veterans on hand being recognized for their service and which branch of the military they were a part of.
The service was wrapped up by a 21 gun salute provided by the members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Dresden post. After the salute Life Scout Hayden Weck, played taps before the crows was dismissed. People were invited to stay and visit and partake in hot dogs and refreshments served by the Girl Scout Troop 60274.
