Dresden Dorados Finish Season as Division II Tri-County Aquatic League Championship Meet First Place Winners

In their first season as a team, the Dresden Dorados earned their place on top in Division II of the Tri-County Aquatic League.

“I’m really excited for our team! It was a total surprise that we won in our division in the virtual championship, but it proved positive that we have a good thing going on here and some terrific athletes too!” stated Dorados’ Coach Christi Holmes.

Demand for a summer swim team was very high, with over 90 kids on the roster ranging in age from 6 to 18. Coach Holmes (who is also the coach for the Tri-Valley Swim Team) lead the effort in organizing the new team with support from the Mayor of Dresden, Greg Morrison and the Dresden Swim Center.

The amount of support provided to put on the meets was outstanding especially for this being the first year. Parent volunteers were needed to track times and officiate meets among other tasks. Coach holmes hopes to retain some of those that helped this year and put incentives in place to motivate new parents to learn to officiate meets.

“Without a doubt, we had tremendous parent and community support this summer!” Coach Holmes commented. All practices and seven meets were held at the Dresden Swim Center which provided the perfect venue with plenty of room, concessions, and an Olympic size pool.

The Hangout (Dresden Swim Center concessions), was open to sell food during the meets. “Manager Sandi Smith and her crew did a fabulous job supporting the meet spectator crowds with special meet menus,” said Holmes.

In addition, the contributions from the Dorados sponsors for this season were exemplary. 2021 sponsors included Hollingsworth Consulting, SonRise Pediatrics & Wellness – Dr. Andrea Collet, Graham’s Dairy Queen – Frazeysburg, Muskingum Valley Veterinary Services, Inc., Hummel Group – Chad Olinger, Rea & Associates, 1340 Café & Sweet Shop, Thorne Plumbing and Heating, Northpointe Dental – Dr. Brian Waggle, The Virtues Golf Club, Park National Bank – Dresden, Lepi and Associates, Rivergate Medical LLC, Paula Harsch, Stacey’s Baskets, Dresden & Company, Robyn Spangler – American Eagle Mortgage, and Split Ends Hair Salon. Also, Operation Round Up Foundation gave the Dorados a $1500 grant for a starting system. The team outfitters were Muskingum Multisports, Aquatic Outfitters of Ohio and Dolfin.
