Dresden Swim Center Splash & Dash Held in Dresden

About 25 runners participated in the Dresden Swim Center Splash & Dash on Sunday, August 29.

Runners came from all over Muskingum County as well as out of the area from cities such as Columbus, Lancaster, Newark, and even out of state with athletes traveling from Pennsylvania and West Virginia to attend the Splash & Dash.

Participants had the option of signing up for the Splash & Dash, a 400-meter swim followed by a 5K run, or a 5K Run/Walk. Two Splash and Dash youth races were also available for younger racers, a 100-meter swim followed by a 2 or 1-mile run. The Dresden Swim Center hosted the swimming part of the race. Upon completing the “Splash” portion, racers were given time to prepare for the 5K “Dash” which took place on the Muskingum Recreational Trail adjacent to the Swim Center.

The top three finishers in the Splash & Dash were Matthew Ladzinski of Granville (age 40) with a finishing time of 32.56.5, Joe Clark of Zanesville (age 64) with a finishing time of 36:01.7, and Andrea Collet of Nashport (48) with a finishing time of 36:04.7.

L. Collet, C. Cunningham and C. Murrey (all 10 years old) were the top three finishers in the 10U Splash and Dash. Their times were 11:29.6, 11:50.6 and 12:00.8 respectively.

For the 14U Splash and Dash, the top three to finish were Liam Clinard (age 13), A. Bukala (age 11), and Leila Hawk (age 13). Their chip times were 18:49.8, 20:38.4 and 20:39.1 respectively.

Lastly, the 5K race results were Bub Froehlich (age 46) in first place with a time of 20:09.2, Cory Reid of Lancaster (age 32) in second place with a finishing time of 21:41.0, and Chris Thoburn of Cambridge (age 34) with a time of 24:31.0.

All participants received a finishers medal and race day swag. Half of the proceeds from the event went to the Tri-Valley Swim Team.

The Dorado Duck Derby, a fundraising event, took place at the Dresden Swim Center after the Splash & Dash. 1500 Tickets were sold and each ticket was matched up with a numbered duck. The ducks were all sent down the slide at the Swim Center and the first three to cross into the shallow area of the pool won a cash prize ($100 for first, $50 for second, and $25 for third). The winners were Cathy Mitchell (1st), Megan Crook (2nd) and Jean Bell (3rd). All proceeds from the Duck Derby go to support the Dorados Summer Swim Team.
