Dawgs Chase The Panthers Out Of Dresden

The Scotties looked forward to continuing their winning MVL record for the season as they faced New Lexington on Homecoming night at the Jack, Friday, September 17th. Almost a repeat of last week’s blowout game the Dawgs were giving “home-field advantage” a whole new meaning.

Quarterback Drew Burkhart started his record-breaking night with a long pass to #5 Alex Williams for a 65-yard touchdown about halfway through the first quarter putting the Dawgs up on the scoreboard at 7 – 0 after #8 Coleson McCullough’s successful PAT. The Panthers were able to hold Tri-Valley to just one score for the first 12 minutes.

As the clock rolled into the second quarter Burkhart landed another pass to #11 Grant Dal Ponte for a 13-yard touchdown doubling the Scotties score at 14 – 0. The Panthers were able to pull out a short touchdown halfway through the quarter and finally got on the board with 6 points before a failed two-point conversion. Just after the kickoff to Tri-Valley Burkhart threw another blazing pass to #13 Thomas Williams for a 60-yard touchdown advancing their lead to 21 after a good PAT by McCullough. With just 15 seconds left on the clock, Burkhart ran in his own touchdown with short yardage to end the first half of the game with a substantial lead of 27 – 6 against New Lex.

Just a few seconds out of the locker room Burkhart again took to the air with a repeat long pass to #13 Thomas Williams for a 58-yard touchdown with McCullough’s good PAT to put the score at 34 – 6 for the only score in the third quarter.

In the final quarter of the game Burkhart was able to put up another double-digit pass to #11 Grant Dal Ponte for a 60-yard touchdown for the running-clock lead of 41 – 6. The last score of the night went to freshman running back #16 Kam Karns who ran the ball in for 23-yards and capped the Scottie’s score at 47 to New Lex’s 6.

For the night quarterback, Drew Burkhart had 401 passing yards setting a new school record! The Dawgs had a change of schedule due to a cancellation of the game against Morgan, but now will be continuing their run of home games with a pick-up game against Columbus-Briggs at Jack Anderson Stadium.
