Randy R. Cox, 68, of Dresden, Ohio died Wednesday afternoon, September 29, 2021 at his home.
Born August 4, 1953 in Noble County, a son of the late James Edward and Lila June Smith Cox and a graduate of Shenandoah High School and he earned his Bachelor’s degree in education at Muskingum College. Randy was a kind and gentle soul. Through thirty-five years of teaching, he seldom raised his voice and rarely criticized others. As a youth Randy spent many summer days mowing, often the area cemeteries in Noble County. He saved his pay for tuition at Muskingum College. As an adult, he and his friend Wendell would place flags on every veteran’s grave on Memorial Day. They enjoyed history and the quest of locating forgotten heroes.
Besides being the Tri-Valley ticket man at almost every game, he was a faithful Christian at Dresden Madison Presbyterian Church. He served as elder and taught Sunday School for years in addition to printing bulletins, updating the announcement board, decorating the sanctuary and unlocking the doors every Sunday. Randy remembered everyone at Christmas with treats and religious mementos.
Randy had many hobbies and interests. He collected models, played pinball, read, seldom missed Jeopardy, and shared his home with a cat, most recently Lady Jane. He enjoyed driving out West in the summer. He once drove all the way to Alaska and still would make plans to visit acquaintances at small churches in North Dakota. Besides all these attributes and accomplishments, Randy was a good cook! We will miss him.
Surviving is a sister-in-law, Mary Elaine Cox of Sarahsville; two nephews, James Carl (Beth) Cox of Belpre and Jason Edward Cox (Christopher Morgan) of Sugar Grove; three great nieces and nephews, Dylan, Kaleigh, and Mary “Izzy” Cox; an aunt and two close friends, Paula Harsch and Julie Link.
