On Monday, February 28th, 2022, author, Dr. John Becker, will visit Frazeysburg Elementary School. Dr. Becker will talk about the twenty-eight books he has written for children, read from his books, share videos from his field research experiences and sign copies of his books. He will discuss the writing process and tell stories based on his adventures, such as how he came to write Amazon Adventure after making his amazing trip to the Amazon Rainforest. Dr. Becker will also explain the role his book, Frenemies for Life, plays in the cause of cheetah conservation, as well as answer questions about his other books; Maggie The Talented Mouse, and his eight Seedling books for beginning readers.
Dr. Becker is a graduate of The Ohio State University, a former elementary school teacher, a college professor at the University of Florida, and an administrator at the Columbus Zoo. He has also worked for many years in the field of wildlife conservation, so it is of no surprise that wild animals are the central theme of his books. Dr. Becker is a full-time author living in Deerfield Beach, Florida. The fifteen books in the Returning Wildlife series, written for second through sixth graders, include; North American River Otters, The North American Beaver, Bats, The Bald Eagle, Wild Turkeys, The North American Bison, Manatees, Florida Panthers, Grizzly Bears, Gray Wolves, American Alligators, Green Sea Turtles, California Condors, Gray Whales, and Northern Elephant Seals. His Seedling books include; Cheetahs, Hawks, Kangaroos, Owls, Giraffes, Scarlet Macaws, Camels, and Snow Leopards. Dr. Becker also taught writing at the Thurber Literary Center in Columbus, Ohio for twenty years. In 2007, Dr. Becker was inducted into the Brunswick High School Hall of Fame.
