As the Scotties girls varsity basketball team has been doing for the majority of the season, they are winning their way through the playoffs and showing that they have what it takes to be contenders in the OHSAA.
On Saturday, February 19th at the Dawg House in Dresden, the Lady Dawgs put up a massive win over visiting Sectional Title contenders Indian Valley with a score of 46 – 23 and moving on to the District playoffs.
Once again on the playoff trail the girls hit the road Wednesday, February 23rd headed to Maysville to take on neighboring rival Philo Lady Electrics in the District Semi-Final Matchup on neutral ground, and as the Lady Dawgs have done many times throughout the season, they put away any doubt that they had everything they needed to make it all the way this year.
In the first quarter of play, the Tri-Valley girls had Philo on the ropes already holding them to just four points for the quarter as they put up 21 points of their own. As the half moved on the girls show no sign of slowing down as they amassed a 23-point lead as the locker room doors closed and the scoreboard reflect Tri-Valley 34 – Philo 11.
The Scotties continued to pummel the Lady Electrics in the third quarter while grabbing another 12 points and only allowing a mere three points from the Philo team with a score of 46 – 13 heading into the fourth and final quarter.
The Philo team tried to step up their game in the final period of play putting up an impressive 10 points for the final quarter outscoring the Scotties by two points for the quarter but it was not enough to even put a dent in the lead that the girls had built over the game and the Lady Dawgs walked away with the 54 – 23 win and the ability to move on to the district final on February 26th, in Cambridge where they will face Indian Creek for the District Title at 1pm.
