Local 8th Grader Kandice Spry Won State For Girls Wrestling

14 year old Kandice Spry has been wrestling on the girls team at Tri-Valley for the past four years. She has won countless tournaments and matches and under the guidance of coach Joe Kaplinsky she has made the trip to state competition for the second year in a row.

Kandice started honing her skills in fifth grade and hasn’t stopped since. Last year she worked her way through the ranks all the way to the championship match to face off against then seventh-grader Austin Brown but she was unable to come up with the win. This year, however, she worked hard and made it all the way back to that top match and again faced off against Brown, but this time she was ready. Kandice was able to secure the win and took her place on the podium as the Ohio State Junior High Girls Wrestling Champion.

Also this year Kandice took second place at the MVL tournament and first place at the Mario Mills Memorial Wrestling Tournament at Bloom Carroll where she was voted Most Valuable Wrestler.

Kandice plans to continue wrestling in high school for Tri-Valley and we look forward to her career.
