Lady Dawgs Defeat Bears And Colts On An Upturn From Last Week

Coach Sterling’s Tri-Valley varsity softball team cranked up the volume this week after rebounding from a rough go last week in losses to John Glenn, and Indian Valley.

In a tight game on Thursday, April 14th, the girls started off against Meadowbrook by taking the early lead with a homer in the top of the first by #6 Kierra Joseph. Meadowbrook batted back in the bottom of the first to take the lead back with a score of 3 – 1 headed into the second inning. The Lady Dawgs were able to tie up with the Colts by the top of the fourth inning, but the Meadowbrook tacked on one more run in the bottom of the 5th to jump ahead again by 4 – 3.

The Tri-Valley girls came out in the top of the 7th determined to walk away with the win and tied the game up again with a single run by #24 Raegan Smith. The Lady Dawgs wrapped up the scoring for the night with two more runs in the top of the 8th inning, a run on an error for #2 Falon Wolford, and an run brought in by a walk for #8 Paiton Murphy. Meadowbrook could not recover in the bottom of the inning and the Tri-Valley girls walked away with a 6 – 4 victory.

On the following Wednesday, back at Kenny Wolford Park Tri-Valley faced-off against the River View Lady Bears. The Scotties took the lead in the top of the second inning with a score off of a pop fly by #13 Keyona Murphy that allowed #4 Gabby French to score.

In the top of the third inning #13 Caity Journey got a triple on a line drive to right field driving in #5 Kendall Baughman pushing the lead to 2 – 0. In the same inning #1 Belle Baughman hit a sacrifice fly to bring home Journey and pop the score to 3 – 0.

River View was able to grab a single run in the bottom of the third inning to keep from being shutout entirely. However, the bats went wild in the top of the fifth inning as the Lady Dawgs lit up the scoreboard for five runs batted in by Hartrum, Rapol, Murphy, Wolford, and Joseph topping the Scotties scoring for the game at 8 total runs.

River View landed one more run in the bottom of the fifth inning but the damage was done and the Tri-Valley girls grasped a big 8 – 2 win for the season.
