Civil War Living History Day to be Held at Historic Prospect Place

Historic Prospect Place Estate (12150 Main Street, Trinway) will be hosting its first-ever Civil War Living History Day on Saturday, July 16 from 10 am to 8 pm on the mansion grounds.

Reenactors from the 41st Ohio Volunteer Infantry Regiment will set up camp allowing attendees a chance to experience what camp life would have been like during the Civil War. The day will begin with a flag ceremony at 10 a.m. An Abraham Lincoln impersonator will be on-site throughout the day and will likely be able to be found in the Gentlemen’s Parlor. Cannon demonstrations at the top of every hour, Ladies High Tea at 11 a.m., and a Fashion Show scheduled for about 3:00 p.m. are among the activities planned for the day. A watermelon eating contest and period games including croquet, racing hoops, horseshoes, and a sack race will also be part of the fun. Food trucks will be on site. Guided tours of Prospect Place Mansion will also be ongoing throughout the day.

“An event like this is something we have always wanted to do”, said Executive Director Jeff Cole. If everything goes well there is a possibility of it turning into an annual or biennial event.

Parking will be available on the corner of Main and East 6th in Dresden and just south of the small bridge between Trinway and Dresden. A trolley will be running to and from the event all day.

The family-friendly event is free and open to the public. Donations are always greatly appreciated as they help with the restoration and maintenance of the estate.
