The Homegrown Players (HGP) put on a series of free outdoor performances of their production, “Twain’s Tales” during the month of August. On the evening of August 12, the group took to the stage at the 9th Street Park (located next to the Dresden Branch Library).
These Theater in the Park events were possible because of a donation from The Straker Foundation which allowed the HGP to become a mobile theater. They purchased a trailer to haul equipment, props, and more for their mobile shows in Muskingum County.
HGP started with a vision to provide more theater opportunities for homeschooled kids in the community. The group was founded in 2008 and became a non-profit organization in 2018. Since they have presented several shows in addition to their summer camps. Members of the cast are between the ages of 8 and 18.
The next big show for the HGP will be Charlotte’s Web. Be sure to follow them on Facebook, @homegrownplayersofzanesville, to stay up to date on all show times.
