Lady Dawgs Volleyball Regain Footing After Losing First Two Matches

Opening the season and getting all cylinders firing as you just come back together as a team is difficult for sure, but the Scotties varsity volleyball team is working hard to recover from losing the first two matches of the season, one of which was their first conference game against Meadowbrook, but they bounced back right after to take down Maysville.

Saturday, August 20th, the girls traveled to Loudonville to meet the Lady Redbirds on their home court. It was a tense game, to say the least as the two teams were very evenly matched in their four-set-match. Set one started out strong as the teams battled each other and tried to scope out their competition, but ultimately the Scotties lost the set 20 – 25. Set two took much of the same course as the Lady Dawgs struggled to bat down the shots volleyed by the Redbirds in another 20 – 25 set loss. In set three the girls were gaining ground with every serve and pushed forward for a 25 – 19 win, but it was not enough to stave off the Loudonville team as they came back for a repeat in the final set to grab the win with a 20 – 25 set score against the Lady Dawgs.

For the game, Eva Dittmar had 19 kills while teammate Lexi Howe put forth 14 kills of her own. In assists, Ingrid Dittmar had 26, and Kenzie Albertson had eight. Kenzie Dickson and Annika Collett led in blocks with seven each. Anna Schuerman and Lexi Howe grabbed 32 digs each and Caity Journey had 20.

The girls hit the road again to travel to Meadowbrook High School on Tuesday, August 23rd. In a rough matchup, the girls were facing an uphill battle against the Lady Colts, who would have been undefeated last season if they hadn’t lost to Tri-Valley in both of their matches. Looking to start their season off on the right foot the Meadowbrook girls took an early lead bringing down the first set against Tri-Valley at 16 – 25. The second set was just as difficult as the Lady Dawgs could only put up 15 points against Colt’s defenders and ultimately lost set two 15 – 25. Meadowbrook added the final blow to the match with a 25 – 9 win over the Scotties in set three.

For the match, Lexi Howe and Eva Dittmar each had 4 kills. Ingrid Dittmar had 8 assists against the Lady Colts. Eva Dittmar pulled out 3 aces, and Anna Schuerman had 18 digs.

On Thursday, August 25th, the Lady Dawgs met up with the Maysville Panthers on Rich Longaberger court in Dresden. After two tough losses, the Scotties were ready to prove themselves on the court. Right from the start the girls took the lead and ran with it, taking set one 25 – 13. Stepping back onto the court the Lady Dawgs didn’t want to lose the momentum so they fought hard and took the lead again this time bringing down their opponents 25 – 14. Hoping for a three-set-sweep the girls didn’t let up the pressure, they scored on Maysville every chance they got, and it paid off. Tri-Valley walked away with a 3-0 sweep with the final set score of 25-17.

Eva Dittmar and Lexi Howe each turned up 14 kills, Ingrid Dittmar had 26 assists, and Eva also had six aces for the game. Sami Cameron blocked five times, Lexi Howe had 14 digs, and Anna Schuerman had 11 digs.

Tri-Valley’s next game will be Saturday, August 27th, at home against West Holmes at 10am.
