The Shops At Union Square In The Old Longaberger University Building Present 1st Annual Art Exhibit Titled “Welcome Home”

The old Union School in Dresden has been host to many things over the years including Longaberger University and for some time Dresden and Company’s main office, but in the past year, it has transformed into a collection of shops, boutiques, and studios.

Throughout the fall the people at Union Square hosted a “Thursday Backyard Market” where they had food, artwork, local produce, live entertainment, boutique items, and baked goods for sale. These Thursday Markets also involved some of the other Dresden Shops with extended hours and offerings.

On Saturday, November 19th, alongside the “Ladies Night” event in Dresden, Union Square will host its 1st Annual Art Exhibit where artists from around the local area have submitted artwork following the theme of “Welcome Home” to be judged by Yan Sun, and Lisa Work.

The art exhibit was an idea brought to the group by Jim Lepi who offered the building as a location for their shops and studios after the Masonic Temple in Zanesville burned down. Jennifer Johnstonbaker and Lurenda Hayes have been working hard with the rest of the group to get the show up and going. They started taking entries back in July and have gathered 27 total entries with a wide range of mediums including sketch work, paintings, stained glass, photos, and digital artwork to name a few. The prizes for the show total over $500 and include a $300 first place for paintings and art and a $100 first place award for photography as well as honorable mentions.

The show will run from 1pm to 7pm and they will have adult beverages and hors d’ oeuvres along with musical entertainment by Howie and Debbie Campbell. Prize announcements will be at 4pm.
