Just after Christmas, coach Christi Holmes and her Tri-Valley swim squad hosted the 2022 Festive and Fun Five Pentathlon on December 28th at the Muskingum County Family YMCA in Zanesville. The 12-event pentathlon brought in nine teams including Tri-Valley, Pickerington Central, River View, Northridge, Cambridge, Coshocton, Licking Valley, Whetstone, and John Glenn.
The dawgs were able to grab second place overall falling a mere seven and a half points behind visiting Pickerington Central who had a score of 177. For the women’s team, Tri-Valley took top marks with a score of 115.5 overall besting the second-place team by more than 83 points. The Scotties men’s team took third place in the competition falling only five points behind the second place finishing River View Black Bears.
For the first event of the evening, Tri-Valley swam into third place in the Mixed 200 Yard Medley Relay with the team of Aj Lawler, Mia Fuhriman, Sarah Jacoby, and Sam Wegner with a time of 2:05.57.
For the Girls 50 Yard Butterfly, Jesi Fuhriman took second place with a time of 29.52 followed by her teammates Mia Fuhriman, Sarah Jacoby, and Dani Stewart in third, fourth, and fifth place respectively.
Abri Mallet swam in at second place for the Girls 50 Yard Backstroke with a time of 33.07 followed by teammates Dani Stewart, Sarah Jacoby, and Jesi Fuhriman in third, fourth, and fifth respectively.
For the Boys 50 Yard Backstroke, AJ Lawler took first place with a time of 27.29 more than a second ahead of his closest competitor.
Tri-Valley took all four top spots in the Girls 50 Yard Breaststroke, with Jesi Fuhriman taking first with a time of 34.95, followed by Dani Stewart, Mia Fuhriman, and Mazie Mallet rounding out the top four.
Jesi Fuhriman also grabbed top ranking for the Girls 50 Yard Freestyle with a time of 26.54, just squeezing past her Northridge competitor by three-hundredths of a second. She also went on to take a two-second gap to win the Girls 100 Yard IM with a time of 1:10.42.
AJ Lawler took third place for the men in the Boys 100 Yard IM with a time of 1:02.63 in a very tight race with the number one spot only ahead by four-tenths of a second.
In the final event of the evening, Tri-Valley took second place in the Mixed 200 Yard Freestyle Relay with a team of Jesi Fuhriman, Sam Wegner, Abri Mallet, and AJ Lawler swimming in with a time of 1:47.33.
