Freshman Girls Wrestler Kandice Spry Took First Place At Pioneer Girls Classic

Kandice started wrestling in fifth grade and hasn’t looked back. In seventh grade, she took second place in the state and came back last year to top that by becoming the Champion of the state for her weight class!

This year she is on the same trajectory as she battles through the ranks in tournaments and even helps out the boys team in duals when needed.

Kandice started off the season with a seventh-place podium finish against 22 girls in the 115 lb division including some of the top in the state.

In her next meet at the Bishop Watterson Lady Eagle Classic, she went 3-0 with two pins and a tech fall to take first place in the competition.

At the end of December Kandice traveled to the Watkins Girls Tournament where she went 4-1 to take second place with her only loss to a nationally-ranked opponent.

On January 6th, Kandice headed to the Pioneer Girls Classic in Lewis Center, Ohio where she had to face off against 21 opponents in her weight class.

On day one of the tournament Kandice went 3-0 with three pins to make it into the semi-finals

On day two of the tournament she grabbed two more wins including a win against the #3 state-ranked girl in her weight class to grab the championship in the 115 lb division with a 5-0 record for the tournament. Currently, Kandice is ranked #11 in the state for the 115lb weight class for girls wrestling.

With this being the first year that the OHSAA has sanctioned girls wrestling, she is quickly making her way toward putting Tri-Valley on the Map for this newly recognized division.
