Coach Todd McLoughlin’s Tri-Valley Scottie boys basketball team picked up its 11th win of the season on Tuesday night, Jan. 24 with their 76-41 win over the host River View Black Bears.

The visiting Scotties led at every break (19-7, 35-15, and 57-30) over the host Black Bears, and were led in scoring by the hot left hand of sophomore Max Lyall who scored 27 points in the win to include seven treys. Joining Lyall in double figures for the Scotties were Nohah Nichols with 12 points and Terrell Darden with 10 points, with Aaron Frueh adding nine counters and Jack Winland and Erik Neal (back from an ankle injury after a two-game absence) adding six points apiece.  Owen Emig’s 24 points were tops for River View.  The Scotties also took home a 53-19 win over the Black Bears in the junior varsity game.  Keaton Hahn’s 13 points led the winners, with Ryan Lamonica adding 10 and Brady Kaufman nine, with a trio of treys.

The victory improved the Scotties record to 11-6 overall and 9-2 in Muskingum Valley League play on the 2022-23 season heading into this Friday night’s (Jan. 27) ‘Round 2’ showdown in Dresden at The Dawg House with visiting Maysville.  The Panthers, leading the MVL – and area – with an unbeaten 16-0 record, defeated the Scotties 57-46 back on Dec. 17 in ‘Round 1’ in South Zanesville. Tip-off for the tripleheader of basketball action at TVHS starts at 5:00 p.m. on Friday with the TV vs Maysville freshman game, followed by the JV and varsity games.

Back on Friday night, Jan. 20 at MVL Small School division opponent New Lexington, the host Panthers got a last-second, game-winning lay-up from unsung hero Ryan Hobbs to upset the visiting Scotties by a 45-43 count in a hotly-contested conference crossover game.

New Lexington led at every break to collect their 13th win of the season. Scottie sophomore Nohah Nichols led his team in scoring with 15 points, followed by Terrell Darden with nine points, and Jayden Walker, Brady Kaufman, and Aaron Frueh adding five each.  Isiah Stephens led the winning New Lex effort with 21 points, with Lukas Ratliff adding 11. The TV JV’s won the reserve contest 48-32 and were led in scoring by Kam Karns with 14 points, 10 from Brady Kaufman, nine from Keaton Hahn, and eight from Ryan Lamonica.

On a rare Thursday night (Jan. 19) outing for TV, the Scotties hosted non-conference foe Fairfield Union for a hoops tripleheader.  Tri-Valley defeated the Falcons – who came to the Dawg House with a 12-2 record – by a 54-49 count and were led in scoring by Max Lyall and Terrell Darden with 18 points apiece, nine from Brady Kaufman, and seven from Aaron Frueh. Caleb Schmelzer’s 22 points led Fairfield Union. TV won the JV game 56-33 over the Falcons and were led by Keaton Hahn’s 15 points, nine each from Kade Hindel and Ryan Lamonica, and eight from Brady Kaufman. The Scottie freshman team tipped-off the evening with a 32-26 win over the Falcons and were led in scoring by Troy Patterson’s eight points and six from Oliver Lanning.

Back on Saturday night, Jan. 14 at home at The Dawg House, the Scotties welcomed non-conference opponent Columbus Desales to Dresden.  The visiting Stallions defeated host Tri-Valley 42-35 in a game that saw the cold-shooting Scotties connect on just three shots from the field in the second half.  Max Lyall and Terrell Darden led TV with 10 points apiece.  PJ Noles led Desales with 14 points. The TV JV’s defeated the Desales JVs 55-29 in the reserve contest, and were led in scoring by Ryan Lamonica’s 11 points, eight apiece from Devin Crane and Kam Karns, and seven each from Kade Hindel and Keaton Hahn.

And back on Friday, Jan. 13, the host Scotties defeated the visiting Philo Electrics by a 74-36 count and were led in scoring by Max Lyall’s 16 points, Terrell Darden’s 14, 10 from Jayden Walker and nine for Erik Neal. Cade Searls led Philo with 20 points. TV won the JV game by a 50-28 count and were led by Brady Kaufman and Keaton Hahn with 10 points each, eight from Derek Frueh, and seven from Ryan Lamonica.
