In Saturday, February 4th’s 22 event championship, the girls team from Tri-Valley made it look like a training exercise when they took the competition’s top spot with a score almost double that of their closest competitors.
The meet took place at Kenyon College, in Gambier, Ohio, and featured teams from 16 Southeastern Ohio Schools. During the meet, the boys teams had a much closer race, with Tri-Valley grabbing a third place podium finish among 15 schools and only missing the top spot by 92 points.
The girls started off the night with a win in the Girls 200 Yard Medley Relay with the team of Sarah Jacoby, Mazie Mallet, Jesi Fuhriman, and Emma Lewis, swimming in with a time of 2:04.96. For the Boys 200 Yard Medley Relay, Tri-Valley took second place with the team of AJ Lawler, Owen Harney, Gabe Lentz, and Sam Wegner.
Abri Mallet grabbed the top spot in the third event of Girls 200 Yard Freestyle with a time of 2:13.52. Dani Stewart and Mia Fuhriman took second and third place respectively in the Girls 200 Yard IM. Jesi Fuhriman grabbed second place in the Girls 50 Yard Freestyle.
AJ Lawler swam in at first position in the Boys 100 Yard Butterfly with a time of 57.13. Jesi Fuhriman brought in a second place finish in the Girls 100 Yard Freestyle with a time of 57.50. For the Girls 500 Yard Freestyle Emma Lewis grabbed first place with a time of 6:20.52 followed in a close second place by teammate Gabrielle Hensel with a time of 6:25.90.
The squad of Abri Mallett, Dani Stewart, Mia Fuhriman, and Jesi Fuhriman swam into first place for the Girls 200 Yard Freestyle Relay with a time of 1:49.01. Sarah Jacoby and Dani Stewart finished first and second respectively in the Girls 100 Yard Backstroke with times of 1:08.19 and 1:08.23.
AJ Lawler pulled off another podium finish in the Boys 100 Yard Backstroke when he finished second with a time of 56.15. Mia Fuhriman and Mazie Mallett took second and third place in the Girls 100 Yard Breaststroke with times of 1:16.41 and 1:16.46. Gabe Lentz swam into third place in the Boys 100 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 1:14.56.
In the Girls 400 Yard Freestyle Relay the team of Mia Fuhriman, Dani Stewart, Sarah Jacoby, and Abri Mallett took another first for the Scotties with a time of 4:06.17.
The Girls team ended the event with a score of 297 points beating all of the other 15 competing teams at the meet. The Boys team took third place in the event with a score of 100 points.
