Tri-Valley Varsity Baseball Ends Season-Opening Conference Winning Streak With Tight Loss To New Lex

The boys have been battling through the ranks of MVL play without much resistance up until they faced off against New Lexington in a tough two-run loss that ended their streak and left the Scotties with a 4-1 in conference play and a 4 – 2 record overall.

Last week saw the boys taking down John Glenn in a 7 – 2 victory at home, followed by a 13 – 3 win over Philo on the road and another road win over Coshocton by a score of 10 – 2.

This week the Dawgs headed to River View on Monday, April 3rd. The Black Bears took a 1-run lead over the Scotties in the first inning but the Scotties came back in the second inning to open up their bats with a run by #5 Kelynn Drummonds on a single hit by #10 Bennett Baker to tie up the score. Baker was able to score on a double hit by #3 Brady Kaufman. Kaufman in turn scored on a double hit by teammate #6 Daniel Huffman. With one out Huffman was brought home by a ground out to third base. To finish out the inning for the Dawgs, #12 Nathan Better scored on a single by #2 Hansel Holmes putting Tri-Valley up 5 – 1 over River View.

Nathan Better landed another run off of the bat of #8 Ethan McClellan to start the scoring in the top of the fourth inning. McClellan was brought in by a double line-drive by Hansel Holmes. Holmes followed across home base from a single hit to second base by Bennett Baker to bring Tri-Valley’s lead up to 8 – 1. River View grabbed a second run in the bottom of the fourth to end the inning down 8 – 2.

In the top of the fifth inning, Nathan Better hit a grounder to shortstop allowing Brady Kaufman to run in for a 9 – 2 lead boost. River View scored their final point of the game in the bottom of the fifth with a single hit by Massie.

#20 Derrick Stotts grabbed the final run of the game when he came in on a double hit by Brady Kaufman to finish the game up 10 – 3 over River View.

The Dawgs faced rival Sheridan Generals next at home on Wednesday, April 5th. The two teams were pretty evenly matched with each pitcher throwing shutout innings. The game went on for four innings without a score on either side before bad weather ended the game in the top of the fifth inning.

Tri-Valley hit the road on Thursday, April 6th, due to field conditions at Kenny Wolford park, to travel to New Lexington to face the Panthers.

New Lex took an early lead with a fly ball to center field that pushed a run across home plate putting them up 1 – 0.

Tri-Valley grabbed the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning when #5 Kelynn Drummonds scored on a defensive play, and Bennett Baker followed with a run on a double hit by Huffman to bring the score to 2 – 1 Tri-Valley.

In the top of the seventh New Lex wrapped up the scoring for the game when they pumped out three quick runs to overtake the visiting Scotties and then held the score to finish out the eighth inning winning the game with a total of 4 – 2.
