Dresden Swears In New Police Chief Charles Doan

The Village of Dresden swore in a new Police Chief during the village council meeting on Monday, May 15th, 2023. Charles Doan was sworn in by village solicitor Steve Baldwin.

Doan a Zanesville resident was hired into the Dresden Police Department as a replacement for current Chief Scott Caldwell who is retiring as of May 26th of this year.

Doan is a 1997 graduate of the Mansfield Police Academy and served for many years as a reserve police sergeant, auxiliary officer, and patrol officer for the city of Mansfield, Ohio.

Chief Doan started his law enforcement career in Plymouth, Ohio where he began as a patrol officer in 1995. In 1997 Doan was promoted to Captain and then advanced to Chief in 2005. Charles remained chief in Plymouth until his retirement in 2017 after 22 years on the force in order to take a seat on the village council.

Along with his long career as a police officer, Doan also has experience as a private investigator and a law enforcement instructor.

“Chief Doan brings a wealth of knowledge to help us begin rebuilding the staffing for the Police Department” stated Dresden Village Fiscal Officer Shellie Adkins.
