After a rough pair of non-conference losses on Saturday, May 6th against Newark and then Mt. Vernon, the Scottie girls came back swinging for Monday’s game against Chillicothe.
The two teams were a pretty equal matchup with neither being able to score until the bottom of the fourth inning when the Lady Dawgs grabbed two runs literally out of the sky when #24 Raegan Smith hit a two-run homer over center field bringing home #2 Falon Wolford and the Scotties were up 2 – 0.
It wasn’t til the bottom of the sixth inning that the girls were able to pad their lead with a run by #15 Caity Journey who made her way in off of a double by #8 Paiton Murphy. Chillicothe tried to mount a comeback in the top of the seventh but they couldn’t make it and Tri-Valley walked away with the 3 – 2 win.
On Tuesday, May 9th Kenny Wolford Park hosted the game between the Lady Dawgs and the Maysville Lady Panthers. The game started off a bit slow with neither team scoring until the bottom of the second inning when Tri-Valley woke up their batting lineup with a run by Paiton Murphy off of the bat of #1 Belle Baughman. A couple of batters later #13 Keyona Murphy hit a single to center field bringing home #7 Cydnee Wolford and #20 Ally Peterson. Caity Journey hit a single fly ball to center field that brought in two more runs from Falon Wolford and Keyona Murphy to put the Dawgs up 5 – 0.
On the very next at-bat, Raegan Smith stepped up to the plate and hit a smashed ball over center field wall bringing home Journey and wrapping up the inning scoring at 7 – 0.
The bottom of the third inning brought more punishment for Maysville as Ally Peterson stepped up to the plate to hit a home run into left field. Later in the same inning, #4 Gabby French scored on a steal and she was followed a few minutes later by Keyona Murphy who was brought in on a hit by Falon Wolford to center. Falon then scored the last run of the inning on a hit by Smith to end the inning up 11 – 0.
Maysville was able to grab one run in the top of the fourth inning but then Tri-Valley came back in the bottom of the fourth for a big seven-run blow-out inning that topped their score at 18.
Maysville pulled off one more run but the damage was done and the Lady Dawgs grabbed an 18 – 2 victory.
During their final playoff game of the season, Tri-Valley battled hard but fell just shy of beating Olentangy on the road on Wednesday, May 10th. The Scottie girls had the lead throughout the majority of the game until Olentangy tied the game in the sixth inning and grabbed the go-ahead run in the bottom of the seventh to win 6 – 5.
In a regular season makeup game against West Muskingum the Lady Dawgs traveled into tornado territory where they racked up a 7 – 5 win against the Lady Tornadoes in a game that featured a home run by Belle Baughman to break the 5 – 5 tie.
Tri-Valley wrapped up the season with a 12 – 4 MVL conference record and an 18 – 10 record overall.
