Tri-Valley Varsity Baseball On Task Headed For District After Grabbing D-II Sectional Title

The Dawgs started the week off strong with their game against Maysville on Tuesday, May 9th as they took two runs off of a double hit by #3 Brady Kaufman that brought in #12 Nate Better and #7 Ashton Sensibaugh. On the next play #5 Kelynn Drummonds hit a single to center field to bring in Kaufman and start the lead off at 3 – 0.

Sensibaugh stepped up to the plate in the bottom of the second inning and hit a triple line drive to right to bring in Drummonds for a 4 – 0 lead.

Maysville slid in their only two runs of the game in the top of the third inning but the lead for the Scotties was still 4 – 2.

The two teams remained at that score until the Dawgs opened up their batting order in the bottom of the sixth inning when Nate Better and #6 Daniel Huffman scored on a single hit by #10 Bennett Baker. Ashton Sensibaugh then scored on a sacrifice fly by #2 Hansel Holmes. Baker was next across the plate on a double by Brady Kaufman who was the last run brought in on a single by Drummonds to finish the score off at 9 – 2 Scotties.

Thursday the 11th saw the Dawgs grab a 10 – 0 mercy win over West Muskingum on a road trip to the Tornadoe’s home field. The first five runs came in the top of the first inning as the Scotties Ashton Sensibaugh scored on a passed ball and Baker followed him across the plate on a double hit by Holmes to set the score to 2 – 0. One out later Holmes scored on a fly ball hit by Drummonds and Drummonds scored on a double hit by #4 Wyatt Brocklehurst. Wyatt was the last runner to step on home plate for the inning on a single hit by Huffman with the score at 5 – 0 after half of an inning.

The top of the second inning was almost as eventful with Ashton Sensibaugh running in off of a hit by Baker. Baker then followed suit with a run on Brady Kaufman’s single hit to center. Kaufman ran in on a ground out by Brocklehurst to end the inning with an 8 – 0 lead over the Tornadoes.

Huffman grabbed the ninth run in the top of the third inning on a ground ball hit by Sensibaugh and put the lead at 9 – 0.

The final score of the game came from a hit and a run by the two Drummonds to finish off the score at 10 – 0. Hansel Holmes pitched the shutout against West Muskingum.

On the playoff trail, the Dawgs pulled a 3 – 3 tie against the Newark Wildcats and then came back to beat Steubenville Varsity for the D-II Sectional Title in a 9 – 2 game at Kenny Wolford Park on Tuesday the 16th.

The Scotties move on to face rivals John Glenn on May 22nd, in the District Semi-Final.
